Christopher Wishard and his family, left to right — Garrett Wishard, Joseph, Elizabeth and Madelyn Birdsell — watch as their tree-shaded front yard disappears to make way for the new intersection of John Rolfe Parkway with Pump and Church roads.

This afternoon a black, plastic barrier was erected 5 feet from their porch and trees that shaded this stretch of road began to disappear to make way for the new, multi-lane intersection.

Derek Eichin on his last night as a server at California Pizza Kitchen in Short Pump. He has been a friend since we met more than 3 years ago when I ordered a Margarita Pizza and he asked if I wanted it on the rocks. He graduated from university this spring and now has a position as an analyst with a Fortune 500 company.
